Wow---takes me back to the good old days............

Remembering back to the 50's and 60's it was a thriving business to spray dirt parking lots, driveways or small roads with waste oil.

Then before you knew it, you'd be drinking it & the lead it contained from the leaded fuel dilution of the oil, in your well, or spring water!!!! Yup I too remember the county & state highway workers spraying the unpaved roads with it, to keep dust down. Many garages had waste oil heaters/burners, to keep them warm in winter, or to make hot water. Folks were told to dump it around foundations to keep termites away, etc, etc!!!! Ignorance was bliss back then!!!!

Indeed ignorance was bliss. Can only assume this is posted in jest.

I read a 70's popular mechanics article about using used oil to prevent termites. pout it at the base of your house .......around the whole house.

I burn it in my 7.3l powerstroke, mix it with 15% gasoline and let it sit for a few weeks and filter it to 5 micron. Runs like a scalded dog, but smells like a old tug boat.

Suspect Vt. would be committed to waste management and if the local refuse sites do not accept 'oil waste' then they should be able to provide referrals such as businesses, and or sites that do?

If you pour it onto the ground it will seep into the ground, which to my knowledge is where it came from anyway? So in essence, over the course of many years, you would be returning it to its original source.
^^^^^^^
I don't to that in case someone was wondering.

I save mine in gallon containers or a drum and when I need to light a brush fire I usually have plenty of oil to help get it going.

here you have to take the oil to a place like Autozone or O'rielys auto parts and have them depose of it. They won't take the used filter or the empty oil container but you can legally throw those in the trash here. Which really doesn't make sense to me.

I take my waste oil to Auto Zone. BUT that whole back in the ground thing is awesome! Think about it.... you are recycling it to be used again in the future. I remember camping as a kid in the 60s and 70s and watching the truck spray the used oil on the dirt roads in the camp grounds to keep the dust down.

Same logic as recycling 6 pack rings back into the ocean. After all, water was used in the manufacturing process.

No need to toss used filters & the oil still in them in the trash to pollute the land fill. Here is what one responsible recycler does with recycling oil filters & the oil they contain, enjoy the well done video, I sure did https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l-filters.html

Not only informative and entertaining its good to know HOW some of our waste products do NOT end up in the landfills.

Thanks for sharing that video (again) PawPaw!

Big City naivete. Or generational ignorance. Where I live, it's important not to dump oil all over the place. The government makes sure that you can dispose of it. Or it could be that I'm just too young to remember dumping oil down a storm drain. Or pouring oil into the ground.

I though that oil & filters were recycled. Period. Everywhere. I can't imagine showing up at a disposal facility where they'll accept the used oil, but reject the filter.
