I bet someone had shaft clips that wouldn't stay in the plastic body, so they glued the ***** on.
No, there are too many of them that are glued on.... one of the very-well-respected guys here some time ago also explained that some are glued and some aren't, but he hasn't been here for a few years now... Ralph, aka @81-F-150-Explorer

I remember him. I've never heard of them being glued on before. Maybe it was a move made to sell people *****?
Heh... I would think they began with glue but decided it took too long to wait for the glue to dry and they had to figure out how to incorporate such a process into the production line... and I'll bet somebody figured out they could save a bunch of time and hassle if they just did the spring thing instead... time and hassle means an awful lot when you're building hundreds of thousands of the things per year...
I made these ***** for my truck as I didn't like the plastic ones. I've had quite a few inquiries into them and wanted to post here to see if anyone would like a set. For the two I'm asking $25 plus shipping. Let me know if any of you guys want some. Thanks, Dale
Sorry for not responding faster. I have been swamped lately moving a CNC mill into the shop to make some fun goodies in the future. I have some made and ready and will PM you to work out details. Here is a pic of the mill I was hauling a few hours from home. Weighs in @6000 lbs
Here it is after unloading and cleaned up a bit. Sorry if you guys aren't tool junkies like me...tools/machines are right up there with my trucks in my world

CNC rocker covers! yes!

What else have you made so far? Looking for some new door sills for the black carpet I plan to order in the next month. Black and aluminumz be a sexy look on an old truck.
