After re reading this thread , something stinks here .First off , why did you not tell us about the sand in the beginning ? Second , why would the salesman own up to this ?
Third , if you are a mechanic , why are you having the work done eleswere? Fourth, If you did have sand in the fuel bowl & it made it to the injectors , they are "all "junk. And if any of the sand made it past an injector , there will be cylinder & or valve damage . Possible turbo damage too . Last ... I'll keep the last point to myself .

If the sand made it past the return screen , there will be sand in the tanks as well .

But sand in the filter housing would have done nothing. Sand is heavy and fuel flows into the filter doesn't it...that's why they get black on the out side...

Fuel pumps in tanks...that's a Gasser thing...only.period..millions of these...no in tank pumps.

Dump sand in the housing , inside the filter will do it. Some is bound to get in the stand pipe .

^^^^ +1; and fifth (to add to the list in post #17), if the truck's provenance since new is known to the OP, and it's all original, how is it that it has in-tank fuel pumps? Does anyone know of any OBS PSD PCM that can operate/control in-tank fuel pumps? What sort of tank switching system would this truck have? Has anyone else here heard of such a beast?

as far as the Fuel pumps go ,he said he has an inertia switch . There would have to be a controller in place to turn the pumps on & off with the tank control . I always figured that was the reason the 99& up had a single tank

Which sounds totally not-stock. Like you say, something doesn't smell fresh....

Yuh, I had the same notion; multiple pumps get expensive.
