Pulled a P170 on nearly new 2015 6.7L

CEL today and pulled the bank 1 fuel trim code P170. Anyone else had this happen? 4500 miles and it did a regen within the prior half hour to hour. No other issues with driveability. Thinking maybe a sensor is acting up, searching google looks like an odd trouble code for a stock low mileage truck. Need the truck next week so not sure if it will go into shop first thing or not if it isn't a "dangerous" code. Since it didn't go into limp mode I am not as concerned but don't want to cause further damage and be liable either.

This is what I came up with. I think the code is P0170. Lifted from the Motorcraft OBDII for 2015

Fuel Mass Observer (Global Fuel Bias):

Fuel Mass Observer (FMO) is an algorithm used to detect deviations in performance of all injectors from nominal. The oxygen percentage as measured by the tailpipe oxygen sensor is compared to a modeled oxygen percentage based upon current fuel, boost, and EGR settings. Deviation between the observed and modeled oxygen percentage is expressed in terms of the error in fueling required to explain the deviation. This calculated error in fueling is then divided by the current requested fueling level to generate a ratio of percentage error in fueling. This fueling ratio is then filtered over time. If the filtered error in fueling ratio exceeds minimum or maximum limits, then a code is set.

Fuel Mass Observer (FMO) Monitor Operation:

Thanks, I found some FMO stuff on motorcraft site but didn't explain as well. I won't worry about it as much now until I can get it in later this week. Tempting to clear it but I know better.

galaxy641, were you able to find and fix the problem? I have a 2013 with 28,000 miles and the same P0170 code. Thank you.

Hello,

Is there anymore information on this code?

Fixes, what the issue turned out to be?

I've gotten this code several times in the last couple of months. I was going to my truck checked under warranty as soon as I can get it in.

Thanks

I only get this code when outside air temp is approximately 30f and below. I think with my no limit intake as it gets colder it flows more air mass than the computer expects. I may try a different tune later.

Really hoping it's not an ambient air temperature issue below 30F being I live in Colorado.

I'm complete stock and getting the code on a 2015.

Sure was hoping there would be more information about this code out there. I always try to be as knowledgable about issues before I have to take truck in into the dealer. Appointment is set for next week.

As always, thanks in advance.
