The drama filled flat tire saga!

April of 2014 I bought a set of the new BFG Rugged Terrain tires in the 265/75/16 flavor.

All was well in tire land until this past weekend. I picked up a screw with a balloon end on it that wrecked havoc on the tire. Go back to Sam's Club where I bought the tire to get it fixed. Was told it would take 4-5 hours to fix it. That was the first **** me off situation.

Get a call 3 hours later saying that I need a new tire and they do not know when they can get one. I will have to call back on Monday or Tuesday and see. That was the second **** me off situation.

I go and get the tire/rim combo and see that they put a 3/8 plug in it and it is slowly seeping air. You are not suppose to plug a E rated tire! Well at least that was what I was taught when I slung tires!

So I am driving on a spare tire tire that is 12 years old and the rim doesn't match the others!

So I stew on it for a bit after I got home on Saturday. I placed a call to the Club manager and we had a discussion. Typical BS offering me $ to appease me, promise to get a tire ASAP and that the head tire tech will call me Monday. Monday comes and goes with no phone call! I call 3 times before I finally get a manager to pick up the phone. A different manager this time, but they know about the situation and will get me an answer 1st thing today.

So I finally get a phone call from the tire tech and he is falling over himself apologizing for not calling yesterday. Then he drops the bombshell that the tires are discontinued and there are only 5 left in the whole country.

So I listen to him and when he is finished I asked him if the Rugged Terrains are discontinued or just the size that is on the Ex. I never got a straight answer.

Does anyone know what the truth is on the tire being discontinued?

Lesson learned about buying tires at Sam's club! This is the 1st bad experience over an almost 8 year period dealing with Sam's on tires. The last 2 years the service has fallen off big time! I will be paying the higher price at the local tire company for better service!

Had a similar situation at Walmart, where they kind of tried to avoid fixing my tire issue, that occurred this year too. Won't go back to them for their tire stuff, not sure what their problem was..went to another shop and got my tire all fixed...

The Rugged Trail is Bfgs newest SUV tire that came out a couple of years ago.

Is the issue that SAMs won't patch it due to policy or is it actually damaged beyond repair ? If the hole is in the tread my next step would be to take it to a real tire shop or truck shop that fixes tires.

The BFG rugged trail tire has been around for quite awhile. They where factory tires on my 2004 Nissan Titan lasted around 25,000 miles, still the factory tire on my 2013 Titan hope they last longer but I doubt it. Wouldn't buy another set if it was my choice. I would say either the size is discontinued or they are screwing with you.

Yea, the rugged terrain has been discontinued. It was a nice looking tire with good road manners but they decided they didn't need it in the 2657516 size. I'm a BFG dealer and only see a couple in the warehouse nation wide.

The All Terrain KO2 is the newest tire. There is no listing for a Rugged Terrain on any of my BFG suppliers and I think the KO2 is what replaced it if I remember what my Michelin rep told me.

No there isn't, but it will void the manufactures warranty. At least that was the case 25 years ago when I managed a tire shop.

Use a plug boot patch. NOT A shoved in plug on a 80 PSI tire carrying 7000+ LBs

I remember i had a 4" nail go thru the side wall of my dads brick nose, it was around 9:00 pm so tire shops were closed. A local auto parts store was open, I bought some plugs inserted one of those bad boys in, long story short. The tire lasted 3years and maybe 20k. So dont believe the bs they are feeding you, try and get them to replace all of them so all tires match
