This is **** first vehicle, his 1969 F-100. Entered his first car show. Not that it is a spectacular machine, But it will be. He has done a lot of work on it himself. We thought it would be cool to enter some car shows so others could see it transform too. We had loads of fun, rubbing elbows with some old timers and even walked away with some new ideas.
He won 1st place in his class "Unfinished". We raised the hood to show off the shiny rebuilt carb, Taylor 8mm wires and chrome coil to show it has been worked on as MOST of the work has been underneather the truck.
As you know, there are holes in the hood on the inside. I have always kept Radiator hoses, heater hoses, spare belts, etc. in those cavities. There were more comments on that than I thought there would be.
**** also won the 50/50 raffle pot and donated the money he won ($178) BACK to the charity group that put on the car show.
**** got fired up about this, we spent 6 hours Saturday driving from junk yard to junk yard and finally found a disc brake front end.
There were several firsts this weekend. A great experience for a 16 year old kid. For myself too, for that matter. I'm a proud pappa bear.
The first yard I stopped at wanted $350, I pull it.... BS
6 hours later and 6 yards later, I picked this one up for $150.
These trucks just aren't out there anymore!
I wonder if the King pins are the same diameter in 80 to 96 so we can just swap spindles?
I think this is one of the BEST things I've heard in a LONG TIME. Teach, obviously you have taught him there is Heart and Respect in Manhood. And Manhood in Heart and Respect. Most youngun's of the current generation would have kept that money and spent it on the truck. While he may have been tempted, he chose Charity. I very happy he won, don't get me wrong. But I am more Proud of him for giving up the 50/50 and You for teaching him so well. I think there is a new Prince in the Kingdom.
To both of you two gentlemen I say PROST!
Whoa! Calm down!
Recognition or boasting is not required nor the goal of thid post. We're just a redneck family giving back a little of what we have been generously blessed with. I do have 2 bada$$ boys that we allow to make their own decisions. #2 son has his skill set and when his tallents are honed, I do have hopes that he will contribute to my/our passions.
Prince? prolly not. Reputation and relationships? Absolutly!
All beit, he did want to put it back in his truck.
OK, boasting that he did enter a less than perfect truck and had the guts to stand by it, yea, I'm guilty...
If you don't mind me asking, what did the junkyard charge you for that front end? Seems like the yards here want gold for everything.
Prolly doesn't help you much, but there is a listing on craigslist dallas, A fella has (from the way I understand the listing) an entire front '79 F150 frame clip with discs for $200.
The fellow on Craigslist that sells disc brake front ends for $200 is in Texarkana. He buys and parts out these trucks. I went today and bought a setup from a 76. He is a super nice guy, he included every nut and bolt, and bracket, and the proportioning valve. I highly recommend calling him.

I saw those too. He seems to be pretty fair on his parts. Thats a 10 hour turn around for me.
