Transmission jerk while coming to a stop

The transmission seems to be shifting hard on the 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop. It's not happing all the time, but frequently.

It's a 2001 Expy w/5.4 liter motor 2wd.

Thoughts?

How many miles since that last time the tranny fluid and filter were changed?

No, it does not. It does need the fluid changed. The filter is coarse enough that the only way it plugs is when the trans totally fails and loads it up with large chunks.

Thank you Mark. I remember my 4R100 does not need a filter change (learned from this site) and was wondering about this tranny too. I will be changing my fluid in another 10k miles for the 3rd time.
