4.6 v8 swap into old ford truck ?
Hey Ford truck pro's I'm new to posting on the site but have been reading through posts for a while. I'm starting a new project and wanted to get some opinions before I started.
I just acquired a full 4.6 V8/automatic drivetrain from my brothers 2000 Mustang GT. the car was totaled and I have free range of the left overs. I'm going to be buying a old 50's ford truck (not sure what exactly yet.. I found a few potential trucks) and plan to swap the engine and trans into it.
I am planning on swapping in the 4.6 V8 and automatic transmission. I want to keep the fuel injection, computers and whatever else is necessary to keep it running like a newer vehicle. I'm not planning on using any of the stock gauges, airbags, cabin electronics like power windows etc...
Can anyone tell me what can wiring, emissions, etc can be removed from the engine/harness to clean up the look of the engine bay but still running reliable.
Im not sure if I will be making the truck RWD or 4WD. Is there a ford transfer case that will bolt directly to the automatic mustang trans. The trans tag says AOB, I believe it is a 4R70W trans from what I read.
Thanks, I think that should give me something to work on until I get the truck itself.

Thanks. That saves me some searching. I think for now I am going to keep it simple and stay RWD so I can use the mustang set up I have for now. Maybe in the future Ill look into a trans and TC but its going to be a weekend driver or for cruise nights so I don't see myself really needing 4WD.
Anyone have any thoughts on what wiring I need to get the 4.6 motor running? I have the complete engine bay harness/ ECU from under the ponys hood still attached. will I need any portion of the interior harness' etc to make it run and prevent a no start situation. Im not planning on using the dash cluster, airbags, power options etc.
Are there any definitive how to posts about what is needed to get these motors running well without the extra clutter in the engine bay.
Thanks in advance

Because the typical transmission installed in the donor car is controlled somewhat by the engine its also affected or controlled through the speedo. That's something to consider however I don't if there's a work around for your particular plan.
After complete installation and a few driving tests if all is well you could trim out any excess circuits or connectors not used---I'd simply find a way to hide them from view with one of those engine bay appearance kits.
Not too specific I know but hope it helps just a little.
