Oh I'm so attached to this dang truck my wife jokes that we won't have to pay for a casket because I'll be buried in it.

I guess me putting off this stuff finally caught up to me. I have needed to do ball joints and steering gear since I put the SAS in, but with an upcoming trip to TX loaded with the trailer, I want everything 100%

Hey guys, The internet is yet again telling me several different things for the same question. I'm getting the stuff ready for my rear diff reseal, and I need to know how much XL-3 to use. I ordered two 4oz bottles just in case, it's only $7/ea.

This guy is saying one bottle:
Sterling 10.25 in Differential Service Procedures & Axle Specs

This guy is saying the Ford Dealership said to use two (post #8)
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-question.html

My dealership was unable to tell me how much it required, but said that most of the time the techs "buy" (aka pull out of inventory) two at a time....

I also got a gallon of RedLine 90-175 full synthetic... I don't want to do this job again.

I'd say put one tube in and run it. You may not need both of those tubes of the stinky stuff. Some oils need more than others, in my experience. Must be a decent amount of the stuff in some oils, and since you're going with a higher quality oil, I would venture to guess that you won't need both bottles. Doesn't hurt to have the other one available in case you decide you need it. If you need it, you'll feel the clutches chatter when you go around corners.

Also maybe use oil that already has a modifier in it? I am guessing the stuff you got probably does to some degree. I always used Valvoline Syn with modifier added and had no issues.

I'll do one and see how it goes. I don't want to burn up that clutch, it was replaced three years ago

Ok... most of the parts are in and should be going in this weekend... weather and life permitting.

RedHead steering gear is what I am most excited about to be honest, never had a new steering box in any vehicle I have ever owned... this had better be worth the dang money.

I'll also be resealing and redoing the brakes in the rear, stupid axle seals leaked and soaked the pads.

If you don’t have to buy a casket then you can spend the money on more parts!

I like how you think! Parts are way more fun than caskets for sure.

Yeah I scored a 38 gallon tank off a dude, traded the bench seat from the parts truck for it.

Jarrett did you build that drop mount? I like the reinforced edge. May as well do the Chevy tie rod end thing too.

I got the drop bar at PMF, their 3" version. Super high quality, with a couple of bends that would be pretty tough for a DIYer. Excellent welds as well.

So, I now remember why I didn't install the trackbar to begin with. There was interference with the Sway Bar!! I need extended end links.

So, I pulled the sway bar for repair and installed the track bar... huge difference. Y'all were right.

Also, RedHead gear box installed, HUGE difference. I wish I had done that before. The other parts that made their way on to the truck this weekend are new A/C blower and resistor, 140V IDM that has been sitting in my garage for forever, and I started resealing the Passenger side door with all new rubber. The second new rotor also made its way on the truck, and the Hydra extension cord was installed as well for future reflashes of the chip.

In other news, I put the tow hitch on the Jeep too.. Took all of 15 minutes.. and I reorganized my tool box, so now I'll spend half my time looking for tools for the next six months.
