Hi, today the #3 spark plug blew out of the head on my 03 F250. I want to replace the engine with a better one. I looked at an 04 expedition 5.4 but the oil filter was in the front and it had EGR. How new of a 5.4 engine can I swap into my truck?

The 02-04 are supposed to be the best as far as the 2V engines go.


Why not just repair the #3 cylinder and drive on? How many miles do you currently have?

 

The engine has 113,000 miles on it. I just saw the Time-Sert kit. Can all the spark plugs be fixed in the truck, even the back two?

 

Yeah they can be time-serted but not necessary. Your model year is one of the better engines as they received nearly double the threads for the spark plug holes.

Were the plugs changed at 100k? If not I would change them ASAP, change the coil boots and springs at the same time, make sure to use plenty of anti-seize and die-electric grease as well.

In the slot of the coil pack there is a channel, some members have placed a O-ring there to help with the misfires from rain. Check the link below for a visual reference.
