Towing a 2 Horse BP trailer
I currently have a '91 F150 XLT, 5.0 V8. Its in vg condition mechanically but I'm not 100% comfortable pulling the trailer with two horses in it. The trailer weighs 2800 and combined weight of both horses is approx 2500.
I'm presently trying to sell the '91 and am looking at possibly an F250. My daughter and son-in-law both have Dodge diesels and they feel strongly about my getting same but I haven't found one in my price range that hasn't been rode hard and put up wet. I'm still a Ford girl.
I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on a Ford diesel, F250 etc. I need a four door, no dually. Automatic.
Thanks !

I have customers who pull two horse trailers with 250s and seem to do quite well. There also are a multitude of 250 owners in this forum who seem quite content pulling the weight you are considering as well as good deal more. Overall the load you are planning on towing will not strain a PSD and strikes me as a good fit for your intended use.

Towing a tad over 5000lbs is no biggie for an F150. A diesel is going to be more expensive to maintain than a gasser. My wife pulled her two horses with her F150 just fine.....until I totalled it.
If you just want the extra cushion of the 250, then that's fine. Do not get a Fiat..... I mean Dodge.
A V10, or any of the diesels from 7.3 on through the 6.7 will do the job with no problem. Maybe head on over to some of the diesel engine parts of this forum to do a little reading.

Unless you are towing a great deal and long distances a newer F150 with the max tow and eco boost is a consideration. It will tow just like a diesel. Diesel that are newer will have emissions. Not big deal but if this is a commuter truck as well and lots of in city driving it maybe problematic unless it is worked and get good and hot.
