CAT EC1 MSDS VS Zerex ECL MSDS VS Ford Gold
I pulled up the CAT EC-1 MSDS to see what the stuff is made of. It's made by Chevron.
ETHYLENE GLYCOL
92.26
DIETHYLENE GLYCOL
4.61
POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE
2.70
Zerex is made by Valvoline.
Chemical Name CAS-No. Classification Concentration (%)
ETHYLENE GLYCOL
92.26%
DIETHYLENE GLYCOL
4.61%
POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE
2.7%
Ford Gold
ETHYLENE GLYCOL >90%
SODIUM TETRABORATE 1-5%
The formulas are different. However, all are approximately 92% Ethylene Glycol.
Not sure what all this means. There must be some significance to the different formulas.
I have a feeling most of the coolant problems can be eliminated by properly maintaining the system. I am not a believer in 100k interval changes for any consumable product like oil, antifreeze, etc.
