My tranny won't stop usual shift patterns

I have a 1994.5 powerstroke with 4:10 front and rear end , it has a e4od tranny , I've been tring to diagnose the problem with my transmission lately and I can't seem to find the issue . It shift perfect when it's cold out side or I start it up and drive it to school in the morning . But it's seems that when it warms up out side or I let my truck sit after driving it , it begins to shift all over the place . My od light begins to flash even when I put it in park , it will go 1-2 then 1-3 then slam into 4 then jump back to 3 than into overdrive it doesn't do this at all in the wintertime , or I'll be driving down the road and it shifts like the tranny is cold or like the other day it jumped gears really fast then dropped down into overdrive going like 30mph and stayed there until I got up to speed , the transmission has only 25000 miles on it and I had the scanner hooked up to it awhile ago and it pulled up a speed sensor But it replaced it 2 times already , I replaced the u-joint for the rear and it seemed like it saved the problem for about 2months then it started back again, is there anybody that can help with this I have close to $9k wrapped up just in drive train alone I could really use some help with this

Check for codes again and see what she is coming back with then post it up here. Obviously we got something wrong, Speedo still work properly? Is it reading correct speed?

The speedo jumps like 1inch sometimes when I'm accelerating but that's all it does

Is your speedo electronic or is it mechanical? A Mechanical speedo its normal to have play and jump in the needle due to a sticky speedo cable, an electronic speedo should not jump around or bounce at all.

Without knowing the codes the best diagnosis I can give you is that something is wrong.

Yes a '94 truck will have an electronic speedo and the the speed input from the rear axle goes through the PSOM module on the back of the speedo cluster before going on to the powertrain control module(PCM) which has 100% control of the engine and transmission. So yeah.. the jumping speedo and your wacky trans shifting are very likely related, as stated pull codes again and post up the exact code numbers you get.

Sounds like you have bad bearings in the rear end.
Getting the VSS code says that the PCM is not getting the speed signal from the PSOM.
A PSOM or the RABS module working some of the time is not there usual MO. But I guess the PSOM could have bad caps in it.
So that points to rear end or the wiring between.
When cold the oil in the rear end is thicker and the VSS sensors gap is smaller so it works OK at that point.
Not that buying after market speed sensor does no all ways work as you may not get the right gap between the tone ring and the sensor.

Well I mean there are cheap autozone sensor, I lifted the rear end up and put the truck in neutral and turned the tires back and forth as well as pushing and pulling it and felt no play , slack, nor any noises. The truck drives like a Cadillac

When I had my 94 7.3L IDI, I had the hard shifting up and down and sometimes from first to OD, it was my solenoid pack that went bad, but depending on what you do with your truck could be the answer. If you're in a dirty or muddy area you could have dirt or corrosion on the connectors at the trans remove them, clean them real well and put them back together. Here's a link from another site that kind of talks over some point of this.

My '95 F150 had a similar issue awhile back with shifting. Seemingly random, erratic hard shifts.. bouncy speedo.. flashing OD light. Being an electronically controlled transmission it turned out to be the PSOM. My first thought was a VSS as well, but I replaced it to no avail. Grabbed a PSOM from a junkyard truck, threw it in and the truck shifted like new again. Replacing a PSOM will change the mileage reading, but it got rid of the horrible shifting.

Not saying this is your problem, just stating my experience with a similar situation. Hope you can figure it out.

Ok I'm back with some results. The tone rings like really good , I hooked a multimeter up to the speed sensor and its reading the ac signal or whatever it is and it checked out fine , the truck wasn't pulling any codes up for some reason , but the fluid in the rear end needs to be changed asap it was almost black , the magnet on the speed sensor seemed weak , and the tc checked out fine as well , so I think it's the posm but could a safety natural switch have anything to do with it , I know one of the shift linkage is broke but what do Yall think of it ????? Oh yeah what rear end fluid does it take ???
