California smog and the 300 for 1978
My vin code shows my truck was built for California..
Im swapping a 300 six into a 351 truck...
1978 Ford f250 4 x 4 supercab 8500 gvw non catalyst
I was able to source an egr spacer for the carb,, and the air cleaner... a charcoal can ...everything else is unknown right now...
Ill have to source the correct distributor (my motor is a HD and older) and carb... I assume ford spark control.. which I assume is the same as the v8 hopefully
From what I can tell from the ford listing it is supposed to have;
PCV-Positive crankcase ventilation.. thats an easy one
ACL-whatever that is..located in the air cleaner?
Evap- that wasnt listed in the emissions nomenclature.. is that the charcoal can?
OC- again not in the nomenclature
FR- ditto as above
BP/EGR with notes #12-(on some California models).. so how does the ref figure out which model? I get EGR.. what is BP.. some kind of bypass valve?
Spk (I assume spark?) with notes 1 and 21 1= some models 21= includes ported vacuum switch or spark delay valve or trans. regulated spark control system.. again.. how would the ref know what this motor was supposed to have.. or might he refer to the original truck the 351 and say thats what it supposed to have.. and Im not expecting anyone to know definitively what some referee might think
Does anyone have pictures of what the stock smog accessories are... and look like... and vacuum routing is for this motor/application
Smog *****.. ugh.. I wonder if I can even get a ref to talk to me... however I just read this on the B.A.R. site;
"Replacement of a vehicle's engine with the same engine size or an engine offered by the manufacturer for that year, make and model is considered an engine replacement and does not require a Referee inspection."

They will check your Timing.
They will do a pressure test if you have a single gas tank.
Smog shops are linked to a database that says what equipment you should have for your year/make/model.
More info, and a link to 1978 vacuum lines.

That was super helpful.. the emissions diagram was for a v8.. but the terms were great

This hipoparts C/D parts catalog that I post pics from was scanned from an early edition (10/79), it has errors and omissions.
The final edition of 10/88 is only available on microfische, I have it, but can't post pics from it.
Lower pic is 1979.

Smog pump listed in the text for 1975/79 F100/350 300, but the only pic that shows F250/350 is for 1979 300.

Found the smog pump and bracket on ebay and ordered it... only to have the seller cancel and refund me this morning... this might be a PITA sourcing everything

D9TZ-9B452-B .. Smog Pump Adjustment Bracket / Marked: D9TE-9B452-BA / Obsolete
1979 F100/350 & Econoline 300.
Looking for these parts in NorCal may be difficult, but if you were still working in the Firestone area, SoCal Truck Wrecking may have the parts. They rarely threw anything away.
