1995 F150 4x4 & 1995 Lightning E4OD swap

I have a 1995 F150 4x4 with a EFI 408 stroker, with a E4OD that's been built up by my local shop to withstand the 500+ torque the engine is making. And over the years, the salt being used to melt the snow during the winter has eat the frame up bad enough for me to start looking for another truck. I have found a 1995 lightning, and I am wondering what it would take to my 4x4 trans to work in the 2wd lightning. To my understanding it takes tearing the trans all the way down to swap the tailshaft, and swapping the the pan and filter from the 4x4 trans. And vice versa with the lightning trans for it to work in the 4x4. Anybody else done this, or want to input/correct me on what I've heard?

You're right about the teardown to swap the output shaft. You can use either the 4x4 pand and filter or the 4x2 pan and filter. Either way works, just don't mix 4x4 and 4x2 parts.

Is the E4OD from the lightning going to have any issues mating up with a transfer case after the tail shaft has been swapped?

You'll need to use the 4x4 extension housing.

Is that something I will be able to remove from the 4x4 trans?

Yes, it bolts onto the rear of the trans.

Thank you Mark, you have been lots of help. I have one more question. The 1995 lightning that I went to look at was in pretty bad shape, and I have found a 1993 lightning that I'm going to look at now. Is there any differences in the 93 e4od in the lightnings that I need to be aware of? Should I still be able to swap tailshafts between transmissions?
