Once it's installed put 8 quarts in it, then run the engine for 60 seconds and shut it off. Add four more quarts and start it again. Let it run to warm up. Move the shift lever to each position and then check the trans fluid level. Use the dipstick to set the level.

Do I need to add any fluid to the torque converter before I install it?

Installed new- rebuilt trans by ford with three year warranty last weekend, was informed that unit cane filled with fluid. Trans went in pretty well, also installed new catalytic converter's both left and right side. Truck runs fantastic now which was quite a relief, was starting to think I needed a new motor. Amazing how the computer can make you think the worst!
