Exclamation Ranger 4x4 Conversion

Hey Everybody,

I have a 2000 Ranger V6 4.0l that I love. The problem is its only 2 wheel drive and its very inconvenient where I live. Are 4x4 conversions possible? Are they financially worth the effort? Any input would be appreciated!

Easiest thing is to buy a wrecked 4x4 ranger as you'll need trans, xfer case, driveshafts, front axle and supporting hardware, buying these parts individually will nickel and dime you to death. Be sure the donor has the same gear ratio and trans. It'll take some work but in the end it should be worth it.

Financially, you would come out ahead by trading for a 4x4. Down time for your vehicle and your personal time involved would add up real fast, so for a few hundred dollars, I would just swap vehicles. Course, you could buy a rolled 4x4 for a few hundred dollars and spend your time working on it if that is your desire.

If you have the torsion bar suspension, just a matter of bolting in the right front end parts. If coil spring, I'd do as Ranger Pat mentions and trade trucks (or frame). The frame are difference between the two.

Unless you are emotionally attached to the current truck, sell it and just buy a 4x4. That takes all the fun out of making the swap, but it's not a fun as it seems when you are fighting rusty bolts and spending weeks trying to make it all work. 4x4 Rangers are plentiful. Just find a clean one!

I wanna do something similar except I wanna put a 4.6 DOHC in the engine bay to turn the wheels. Would the easiest route be swapping in the parts from a wrecked 4WD Lincoln Aviator?

Also, I have a standard cab 99. Thanks
