Econoline Emergency Brake

Econoline Emergency Brake
I don't know if I am in the right forum, if not someone please point the way.
I have a 61 Econoline Pickup. The E Brake is a silver T handle. I am trying to figure out how it operates. I pull the handle up and it just goes back down. There is a rubber gromet or something along those lines, in a reset area but other then that, I can't seem to figure out what is NOT working.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Steve

I'm not near my truck, so I'm going by memory. The shaft has little notches on it, and the housing at the top of the tube which the shaft goes into has a pawl (or whatever) that engages into the notches. You can kinda hear it zip through the clicks as you pull the handle up. To release, you twist the handle so that the pawl rotates out of the notch, and the shaft drops down. I don't think there's any rubber parts in there. Sounds like you may be missing a spring or something which would be applying pressure on the pawl to make it engage. I'll be seeing my truck later this week, and will take a look. Good luck.

Thank you so much for the reply...i have been checking back to see if anyone has replied to my post. I think what you saying is something that for some reason mine doesnt' have. at least that part. So I am goign to have to disconnect it and take it apart and then see what I am missing.
I appreciate so much the response. It helps.
thanks again

The Econoline parking brake handles from 1961-1967 are basically the same. Ford split the parts books between 1963 and 1964, thus two drawings.
You can get the Spring and the Pawl part numbers here

Here is the 1964-1967 diagram.

Great, Thanks!
Part 2119 in the diagram Numbers Dummy posted fell off while driving one day and now my e-brake handle pulls straight up & out. I found another "2119" at a junkyard. I believe off 65, 66 or 67 Econoline since the license plate was mounted on left rear door vs bumper. Anyway, it looks a bit different than pictured in diagram though I assume application/function is same. Ebrake coming soon!

The 2119 you saw in the early diagram became the 2768 Parking Brake Equalizer in 1964. Then it became the 2A602 for 1965-1967.
FYI - The 2A602 for your 1965 Econoline is the same as the one on the 1966-1967 F100/250, and the 1967 F350, P100/500.
Stating in 1964, it was more of a flat bar, rather than the 2119 in the diagram, which is rather U-shaped.
They all do basically the same thing. A single parking brake cable coming from the front of the truck is transferred to two cables going to each rear brake.

In your photo, it appears you also lost the 2628 shown in this drawing. It is basically a long screw (12" long, cut from a threaded rod) with a bend where the head should be. That bent end goes in the hole near the pivot end of the 2A605 that I see in your photo. The threaded end goes through the center of the 2768. A nut drawn on the 2628 will take the last amount of slack out of the parking brake cable.

Resurrecting an old thread. My 62 E100 is apparently missing the pawl and spring as I can pull it up but nothing ratchets or locks. I have ordered the spring and pawl. None of the drawings or photos I have seen show enough detail on them to help understand how to put these in. Is it so easy as to be self explanatory or does anyone have any more detail. Tnx in advance
