Placement of ID tag on 52 F1

A buddy of mine just finished restoring a 52 F1 deluxe. The truck looks totally stock. While at a cruse in yesterday he was questioned about the ID tag placement. His is on the firewall under the hood, not on the glove box. He asked me if it was right as someone said it should be on the glove box. He removed a crusty tag off the firewall when he did the paint stripping and took pictures, so he was convinced its in the right spot. I said I was sure it should be on the glove box and there might have been a patent tag on the firewall. He did have the ID tag repopped . Also its a California truck and it may have been that way as we all know diff assy plants did different things. It has holes in the glove box which make it questionable.

There were tags on both the firewall and on the inside of the glove box door. In addition, there usually was some type of marking (it varied by the assembly location) on the engine bay firewall just forward of the cowl vent. These markings were not on a tag, rather, they were either painted or stamped build info beyond the simple coding of the serial tags.

A '52 should only have the glovebox tag. Also no stampings on the cowl. It may be a late 51 production, but it sounds suspiciously like cabs may have been switched.

Ross, does the 52 have the Patent plate on the firewall, or did they do away with that one?

Here is the type of tag that should be on the inside of the glovebox door.

There is no firewall tag on late '51s and '52s. Only the glove box plate as pictured. Stu

Are you and he sure it's a 52? What is the serial number stamped in the frame?

As the others mentioned, the new style rating plate was introduced in September, '51, which replaced the old style rating plate and eliminated the firewall patent plate.
