Transmission dipstick tube replacement (Wildman25 )?

1994 E150 5.8l conversion van. Need to replace or figure my problem with the transmission dipstick tube. While pulling out the dipstick, the tube either came out of whatever or broke. Went underneath for a general check and seen the end of it about 8 to 12 inches from the oil pan area. I'm totally clueless on this. Never changed or hooked one up before on anything. Detailed steps would be appreciated. Also can a new be got at a part store or is this dealer only? Thanks

The tranny dip stick tube is a 2 piece tube, on the transmission pan, about 8" long is welded and permanently attached to the pan, the upper section that runs to the front hood, "slides" into the section mounted to the pan.
There is a bracket that supports the tube at the rear of the engine, secured by one of the upper transmission/engine bolts, and another bracket that's mounted to one of the studs of the EGR valve.

It's possible that the upper tube section has slipped out, became un-mounted from the pan section of tube, and this is what your seeing - dealing with??

Pulling the dog house off, on the passenger side, the tube is connected just under the floor section from the rear of the engine, it should just slide back into the section mounted to the tranny pan. Most cases, this is the problem with pulling the tranny pan off, as that joint will be stead fast, and pulling it apart can become a real problem. In your case, it might have lost one, or both of the support brackets, and just came apart. Re-attaching the sections should solve your problem, and then find some way to secure the tube so that when you pull the dip-stick out, the tube does not come apart again. Possibility, adding a worm clamp at the joint would work, just don't over tighten the clamp to deform the tube.

That would be if the tube is not rotted out at some point along the tube.

If you find the upper tube is indeed rotted off, let me know, I have one from a '94, the dip stick itself is living in another members van at this time.

As far as getting this part replace, the only place I would think would be at a junk yard, or U-pull-it place, I'm sure the Dealer's do Not have this part in hand anymore, along with a lot of parts we need for this era van.

You the man Wildman25. I'm thinking like you said that it pulled off the sleeve. I forget to put the bracket back on the egr valve I replaced and this morning pulled out the dipstick and immediately said uh oh. Can't touch it now until Sunday so I will let you know. I just can't thank you enough. I just hope you don't think I'm a bother but I have learned you definitely know your stuff. Thanks.

Had some daylight when I got home
Like you said it just came off the sleeve. Wish everything else I've done was so easy.
