Questions on power steering
I recently traded my 1997 Buell Lightning (which has been parked for 7 years) for a 1960 F100 4x4 longbed stepside, 292 4 speed. It isnt running right now but seems complete and unmolested other than rust issues. Ive been looking on here for power steering conversions. I know that the Toyota conversion is closest to stock, but Im wondering if anyone has done a conversion with a Saginaw style box and inverted Y style tie rod setup... maybe more like the 66-72 setup or Like the Jeep XJ, MJ, YJ, TJ, WJ, JK (which Im VERY familiar with). Is there anything other than fabrication of mounts and tie rods that makes this style unworkable? I have a feeling that the aquisition of good used parts would be much easier and cheaper with the saginaw setup. Both styles would need fabrication and or purchase of conversion parts, and rigging up a pump. What are your thoughts and or experiences.
Ive always been a Ford truck guy. Ive owned a 1968 F250 Ranger Camper Special, and a 1985 Ford Ranger. I was looking for another Ford when my 1987 Jeep Comanche fell in my lap and its been my baby for the last 8 or 9 years. And being a Jeep dealer tech has made getting Jeep parts really easy. I couldnt turn down this '60 though. I look forward to getting it going and learning from you guys. Thanks. Ive put pics of both trucks below.
