getting ready for a high amp alternator when old one goes.

So i figured I would be ready when the time come to replace the OEM alternator and going with a 6.0L 140 amp unit.

When I was looking around founding the DC power 200 amp units they recommend a direct wire from alt to battery hot terminal so i found the part and assemblies my own kit.

here it is all installed..

I got the AN Raptor 200 amp waterproof assembly off amazon along with the 200 amp gold plated fuses.. I got a 32" 4 ga battery cable wire at advance auto which had a holed flat connector on both ends.. I did have to get out the side grinder and modify them to fit better. If you have access to the ring terminals like on the alt now it would work better but I did not have a way to crimp it on.

I just used a couple of selftaping screws and attached to top of battery box intake area.

the raptor is good for 4 gauge up to #4 wire.. there is a sleeve i slid over the wire and then inserted into the body where is a allen head screw to crimp down on the wire.. I smeared dielectric grease all over the wire, sleeve and inside of the area to make sure to prevent water or corrosion issues.. I also filled the ends of teh assemby with grease as well to help prevent water intresions.

the whole thing took 1hr with having to get grinder, get vice set up in hitch, curse a couple time at the hot humid conditions, etc..

and yes the fan and shroud are not on right now.. I took it off in feb and have not put it back on.. I dont drive it much and the MPG has gone from 17.1 to 19.1 -18.9 around town. on the hwy it will get up over 21 to 22. Plan on putting a couple elec fans on when the need arrises..

Ran mine without fan and shroud for a while. As long as you don't tow anything or drive any long hills, you will be fine on temp. My mileage also went up without it. Some data I have seen says fan clutch/fan accounts for 15HP load taken from engine.

Setup looks nice What was your cost on it?

If i tow anything it will be in early oct when we might rent a camper in wilmington and pull it to outerbanks to camp.. will be cooler and little to no hills, and yes the fan i have heard is 15-25 hp depending on clutch thermostat.

EDIT

i had this in my cart on ebay and forgot about them.. its both the holder and fuse for less.. it looks like the raptor with out the raptor marking on the side..

not a bad deal for 15 bucks.
