Hey Guys,

My starter is going out (fast) on my 71 F100 (390 4V). It is most likely due to the close proximity to the Flotech Headers. I plan on replacing it with a new "mini starter". Anybody know what is a good kind?

I am considering that one as well with my current 390 build. I have been told recently though from some old time Ford guys, put a heat shield on whatever starter you do get. It does very well keeping them from going out.

 

Ive got the Sanderson headers and the oe starter end bushing tip is with 1/8" I could hardly get a heat blanket between the down pipes and the starter. The summer time driving slowed my starter down. So went with mini starter speed way was like $129 with free shipping 5 or 6 yrs ago. From there ebay store.

Orich, do you still use a heat shield with the mini starter?

 

Yea cheap insurance plus since, I had to buy that blanket so, I'll just use it until it falls apart. I also wrapped an area of my exh pipes close to my spare tire.
