Hello, just registered. Love the site.
I'm about to purchase a 1987 F150. Pretty good shape. Only two-owners, the guy who bought it new and the grandson he left it to. They say only 106K miles. It's got the straight-six. 4-speed straight drive. regular cab. Everything works well from what I can tell. Runs pretty good.

Just curious what I should be looking out for on these models. Frequent problems? Repairs to expect? Etc?

I'm buying it to be my weekend ride -- take fishing, haul a load etc. Not worried about fluff. Just want a good solid truck that won't let me down when I've got stuff to do on a Saturday.

Thoughts?

Welcome to trucks. Great combo there with a 300 4 speed. Not a lot to go wrong there. The only issue I had on mine is my dual tank switch melted on mine when I rarley used it. Caused a no start. Other than that my 4.9 has been good to me.

x2, I have almost 230k on the same combo. No mechanical work except a carb rebuild about 10k ago, but the '87 would have EFI

106k is nothing for a 300 should last u along time. As long as it hasn't been siting along time u should be ok . I like to do a full tune up and all fluids front to be back wen I bring home a new truck. Make sure u take it on a long enough test drive to let any problems show . Also just the normal things u probly no look for any leaking fluids like the rear main steel ,tranny ,oil pan ext
