Walker radiator in a flathead 6, anyone running one?

Well here I am facing the same problem I read about in another post that was not resolved. What do you guys think?

I am planning on installing a walker radiator into my newly rebuilt 226 flathead 6. The only issue is that the radiator/fan shroud will not bolt to the walker since it does not come with the flange like the original one. I live in the bay area of California so it does not get crazy hot for weeks on, the truck has a new water pump and thermo.

I am thinking it would be fine to run the truck without the shroud but what do you guys think??? My other route is to install an electrical fan or have the flange built and installed onto the walker but really do not want to go this route. All Feedback appreciated!

There are many ways you could attach the shroud if you wanted to, but it's not necessary if the fan is close enough to the rad face (within an inch or so). You could always make a spacer for the fan to bring it forward if necessary. Lots of vehicles work fine without fan shrouds, but they do add a lot of efficiency to the cooling system. The electric fan would be my last choice, personally.

Have you checked lately on the cost of having your stock radiator re-cored? Copper prices are way down compared to a couple of years ago. There's no substitute for the real thing!

I ran my stock 226 without the shroud for the first 4 or 5 years without any issues. At that point I didn't even know it should have had one.

Thanks for all tips!!!

I purchased the Walker about 2 years ago. Its been sitting in my garage since. Based on what you guys have shared I am just going to run it and see how it goes. The fan naturally sites about 1 inch from the radiator and considering its a walker I should be OK. I have new after market gauges so I will just closely monitor its temp. Keep you guys posted!
