Rubber mat to carpet upgrade & clutch rod question

I just got to installing Dynamat and carpet in my '70.. a definite improvement over the bare bones steel floor pans and rubber floor liner. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post15544821

The questions:

1. For you alls with carpeting, does the clutch actuating rod go through the carpet? Or is the carpet simply relief cut ?

1A. And if the rod does go through, does the clutch rod boot retaining plate go on top of the carpet??? How big is the hole? To the inner extent of the plate?

HIO, I have carpet in my manual shift 69 that had a mat. I put the rubber booty on the floor, cut a hole in the carpet and ran the clutch rod thru it. A relief cut, to me, seemed lazy. I'm sure I didn't answer your question, but that's my .02.

No carpet but a full front to back rubber mat. I cut a relief for the clutch pedal since I knew the mat would be coming back out multiple times. Why fight with the clutch rod every time for something that is only noticeable if you are looking for it?

Also a good point... but it'll be staring back at me every time I climb in.

I put the stick in all my bumps, so can't say what is "Normal" for the carpet.

I don't have to worry about this because I have a auto

I would guess you cut a cut some of the carpet up and put the boot on top. That just makes sense to me, but I might be wrong.

Hio, you are correct.

I was using my phone to reply and it looks like it posted to the wrong section.
