Wire on the bottom of what?

Have you tested all the components of your glow plug system?

There was a wire/plug that went into the bottom of my two piece filter. I do not know how to test a glow plug system? Is there a link?

That connector was for your WATER IN FUEL light. With this filter, you don't have any such sensor. Su just drain it every now and then.

I have a 1993 7.3 IDI . My fue waterl filter was dripping. Replaced the filter and it still leaked. On the bottom of the filter Ford attached a drain assy. There is a small rubber seal that looks like a water faucet seal. You'll need to unscrew it to get at the seal. My Ford dealer was going to order it but I went to the local hardware store and bought a faucet seal (bib washer) that worked perfectly. at a 1/3 the price. Thriftco plumbing 9400280 or Sayco Bibb WA.2.

What do I do the the wire on the bottom? Can I just ziptie it somewhere?
yup, just tape the end up and zip tie it somewhere solid.

My dad said diesels do not like to start in the cold...
your father is mistaken.
this is an old wives tale. my 88 7.3 IDI will start 20 below zero without plugging it in.as long as the glow plugs are working. it complains, and takes a while to warm up, but it fires up on one cycle of the glow plugs.

Yep, mine can sit for a month and 1/2 and it will fire up in 2 seconds at 20°, but the starting and fuel system has to be in perfect shape. It lets me know when there's a problem. Last time it was the seals on the steel lines, pump to filter and filter to IP.
