cruise control diag. test results

Hey guys, new to the forum.

I just bought a 2002 excursion v10 xlt. The cruise control does not work. It knew when I bought it that it didn't work.
The pres. switch has had the recall work done FYI.

Basically, when I engage the cc the light comes on but no cc. I tap the brakes or turn the cruise off & the light goes off. If I tap the brake, I can hit resume & the light comes back on.
I ran the self diagnostic, The result were; The light blinked once when I engaged the diag.,
blinked once when I pressed "on",
blinked once when I pressed "resume"
blinked once when I pressed "coast"
blinked once when I pressed "set/accel"

then nothing.. no further blinking. The way I understand it the servo is bad? I have unplugged/re-plugged in the servo wiring to make sure it's tight, no change.
Am I understanding the test results correctly? Please add any suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

20 minutes isn't really a big window on a forum. :: Edit. Didn't notice it was posted yesterday. I just looked at the time stamp, sorry :: Lots of guys on here work mornings, nights, weekends, ect. Give it a little bit of time, I'm sure someone will pop in.

Any luck using the search feature?

Also, you might search the V10 section. Lots of knowledge there too!

Thanks for the reply... I searched every CC or SC problem thread I could find. I will search the v10 section though.

I am a little confused about the Diag. test... It seems like the x thinks that the cruise control is working, but it's not. Just don't want to drop $400 & the servo not be the issue.

I do recall talk about a switch in the master cylinder recall issue. I don't know if it may be related to that or not. I don't remember the symptoms, but I remember one of the outcomes resulted in an engine bay fire.

Yes.. mine has the pig tail with the in-line fuse, so the recall repair has been done. there was no brake fluid in the sensor or wiring. I changed out the switch anyway. Cheap & easy to do Twasn't it

Does anyone know what controls the throttle cable when cruise is set? Might have a bad connection at the motor that actually controls the throttle position.

I'm probably shooting in the dark, but I remember seeing the throttle linkage on the throttle body when I removed the plastic guards to do my spark plugs. Might take a peek in there and see if it's something in there?

Edit: Servo, that's what it's called! I need to read and re read response. Might be simple and just a loose connection.

Yep.. the servo linkage is connected correctly at the throttle body. I disconnected/re-connected the servo wiring to make sure it was good. didn't see any burnt or corroded connections.
I don't have the electrical skills to test the servo.. In my mind it has to be the servo or a short in the wiring. With the cc light coming on when engaged, off when dis-engaged, off when brake is depressed, on when resume is pressed; It doesn't seem likely that it is a wiring short.
I think I will buy the servo!
Thanks Drunken! I just needed to make sure that I had a sound plan.

FYI... I had a 98' Expedition for years before I bought the excursion. It spit one plug several years ago but other than that, never gave me any trouble.

This Excursion is a beast, I love it! I haven't had a speeding ticket in 20 years... mostly thanks to cruise control. I don't love speeding tickets!! This will get fixed.

Thanks for the welcome Harley!

I tested the jumper w/a multi-meter & it is good. I bypassed it for grins & no change.

I don't hear the servo working in test mode? The problem maybe?

Before I saw your post, I ordered a servo from a site sponsor!! $395 or so shipped... Bugger eh!
I did a search online looking for a used servo w/no luck. although I am not the most adept at searching for stuff.... a little computer tupid.

If the servo was the problem.. I will post up!

Thanks
