2001 7.3 cc lb. replaced transfer case motor and relays. Switch itself is good. 4x4 light is always on on the dash, but when I switch from 4x4 to 2hi, the motor makes noise but nothing happens. (I keep the switch on 4x4 to keep from burning up the t case motor everytime I turn the key on). I think it might be a bad GEM due to light always on. Anybody have any problems similar?? And the GEM is a discontinued part from ford, where do
I get one that isn't from a junkyard?

 

Try this guy, his name is Mike, and he is in Clearwater, Fl. His number is 727-688-6453. He buys wrecked Super Dutys from the insurance companies. Make sure you get the right one. There is more than one for 2001. I went to the junk yard to get for for the wifes 1999 Taurus, and I pulled 5 or 6 before I found the right one. Every now and then they pop up on Ebay also. Thanks for the help! Where can I read the sticker code to get the right part without removing it? Because I was looking at the fuse panel (which struck me as odd that the sticker on it said 4/22/05 which further makes me think it got water damaged and the gem is bad) and only found 1 sticker and it didn't match any of the numbers that I found on other forums for used gems. Where can I find the parts number on it without removing it (being my daily driver I don't want to pull it without having a replacement) ?

 

You are going to have to pull it. It's not that hard. pull it, get the number, and put it back in. maybe on a Saturday.
