4x4 front axle upgrade

I was able to find a 1979 dana 44 front axle to replace the bad axle in my 1960 4x4. The problem is it has 8 lugs and I need to convert it to a ford 5 lug. Can anyone help me with what parts I need and where I might get them?

I may not be of much help, but I can point you in the right direction. From what I recall the axle you have is the base front axle for the late 77 thru 79 F250 4x4. I am not sure, but I think the F150 4x4 used the same basic axle with different hubs and rotors. If you can get your hands on a parts book that covers those years you can check if there are Ford part numbers for the parts you need. That should be an open knuckle design with disc brakes. You might want to check axle width and spring pad locations, that axle is likely to be wider.

I swapped a 79 Dana 60 in the front of my '59 and the spring perch/pad alignment was great, as the frame widths are the same on those trucks(or at least close enough!) on a side note, I used the 79 springs (which are wider) to get some more lift, I'm not sure, but I doubt that would make a difference with lining up with the factory perches

If I remember right, you can grab the knuckles and everything else outward from a 5-lug axle up to an 83 TTB axle. You could pickup a TTB axle for very cheap.
