Anyone go down in wheel size?

So just as I think I have it figured out what size tire and wheel combo I want to go with, I began thinking about going from an 18" wheel to a 17". I can save some cash, have a few more tire size options and save on tire weight.

I know alot of guys go up to a 20" setup but that's just not my preference on trucks.

Any negative to doing this? 315/75/17 tire size interests me. Had that on a Wrangler and liked the look. Going to look a little more at 17" sizes before deciding.

Make sure that the 17" wheel is rated for the load that your truck will be applying. I know on the factory 17" wheels, you are forced to a lower GVWR than with the 18" or 20" wheels.

17 & 18 carry the same load, as with any tire there are different ratings with in the tire size itself. 17 will give more tire options than an 18 and be slightly cheaper. Go to tirerack.com and compare different ones.

You may want to try and find someone with a SD with 17" wheels to verify there would be no clearance issues prior to buying a nice set of wheels and tires and finding out Oh s**t !!!!!!! they wont fit.

Not sure of your point??? As stated in the OP, having a 17" wheel is cheaper, more tire options, less weight, etc.

I'm pretty sure some 2015's also came from the factory with 17 inch wheels.

Yes, some did. Most XL's did that I saw when shopping around.

My 2015 CC DRW has 17" alloys from the factory...

I rather have the rubber than larger wheels. It rides better and is very capable of carrying large amounts of weight.
Not sure what is available for the SRW trucks however..
