What's your engine hours to idle hours ratio?

Don't you have to subtract the idle hours from the total hours to determine the ratio? I've got 492 total and 105 idle so mine is 3.69 to 1 or 21.3%. Maybe I'm idling too much, huh? They say, in the manual, to let it idle a couple minutes before cutting it off, after running it hard. Does that mean if the oil temp is over 195 or so let it idle a couple minutes? Or if it's under 200 degrees cut it off right away?

I've found that the engine likes to be at 194° at idle. Seems to be where it settles at full operating temp. So, when I'm driving and the engine has worked for 4 hours at 219° (just for example) I like to shut it down when it has cooled to 200° or below.
I have no idea if there is any reason whatsoever to do this, I don't know for a fact that I am doing anything other than wasting fuel. It tends to cool to 200° by the time I've taken the exit ramp, waited to make a left turn, and found a parking spot at the hotel, so I don't have to idle it more than a couple minutes generally.
I'm at 1010 hrs, 192 idle, 43,172 miles.. I guess rounding off I'm at 20%, I don't do math well.

Mine's up around 40%, which I guess is about 2.5:1. The low speed city driving is what kills me, I think anything under ~25mph is considered idling hours.
Anytime I actually have to idle I use the high idle mod. Unfortunately it doesn't really affect the clock though.

Although I used to be in South Florida - so I completely understand your point too.

With this heat, there's just no way to get cooler without A/C. I know it's a waste of diesel but I simply factor those few extra dollars into my fuel budget for the luxury of sometimes having a cool(er) vehicle while getting a to go lunch somewhere. At least winter I can wear more clothes in the winter but having been to AK, I realize AL isn't cold!
