1955 ford f250 value and opinions

I am going to keep on researching the title part and see what i come up with. maybe a little harder paperwork on my side might equal me being the only one willing to buy the truck which could equal a really good price.

I called the guy about the truck on ebay today. it isn't even a mass title it is a ct title. he seemed to think it was a super easy fix and has connections to get it done. he just doesn't want to pay the sales tax before he sells it because it seems he kind of flips these older trucks for a living and the 8-900 dollar sales tax will eat into his profit a lot. he is also really firm on that 7500 and won't go any lower.
I kind of just left it alone and didn't want ruffle this guys feathers on this particular truck. he says he gets new f100's all the time and will call me next time he has one to hopefully make a deal in the future.
I don't think the title fix is as easy as he is making it out to be. from a lot of the info that I read about it online for mass specifically he seemed misinformed. Who knows if in the future he might find out it is more difficult then he led on.

found this one. it happens to be only about 10 minutes from my house which is nice for a change. I am going to look at it on friday. I know it is only pics and the add is not very detailed but do you guys see any glaring errors i should already be worried about. the price seems kind of high for a truck with no drivetrain. my guess is the interior probably isn't in it either. he did tell me the whole nose is off but he pulled it all in one piece so it shouldn't be to bad to put back on. i don't really see 8k i see about 3500-5000 depending on the shape. if the interior is in, and decent and the body doesn't have any rust or rot and it only needs a motor then i can get probably get a alot closer to 8 but those are alot of "ifs"
let me know what you guys think. i am new to the f100 scene and been searching for awhile. nice local stuff at a fair price doesn't come up often.

I think it is too much for a truck with out a drive train.
I bought this 55 F350 this spring for $7000. This is how it looked the day I drove it home. And I think I could have negotiated a lower price over the phone but i didn't want to lose this truck as I really wanted it as a sibling to my 54.

Hi Adam,
Hmmmm.... It sounds like a project that the prior owner couldn't complete or got tired of.. It's just a bunch of parts if it's not running/driving.
That said - if that Heidt's front suspension is in there correctly that's a big ticket item. $2500 for the parts & another $1,000 to install it.
Brakes - If those are done including a new master cylinder & the lines - that's another $1,000. Steering - A new Ididit column installed & hooked up already to that Heidt's suspension - another $800. You can get fenders for $250 ea, a bed for $1500, Frame for $500, Cab for $800, etc.
I'm sure he has $7,000 in it but that's not your problem. I wouldn't pay more than 50 cents on the dollar for Parts.
Suspension - $3,500
Fenders - $1,000
Bed - $1,500
Frame - $500
Cab - $800
---------
$7, 300
Maybe $3,000 to $3,500 & only if you have some mechanical skills
to get the engine & everything else installed. Buy the best truck you can afford up front it's not cheap to build from scratch.
Good luck over there in Massachusetts.

if it wasn't so close i probably wouldn't have looked. i just knew he wasn't going to take a real offer of the the truck might actually sell for. i will point out some red flags
1. guy paid 8500 for the truck with a blown up 460 in it in the first place.
2. said guy then put 2500 bucks plus install of the mustang II front suspension.
3. other misc parts he got and he was into it for 12000 which i totally believe because sometimes the cost can get away from you when working on this stuff.
body was in really good shape. one cab mount area looked kind of questionable. other than that the whole body looked solid. no major dents, no rot, no crazy surface rust that couldn't get knocked of with 80 grit super fast. even the paint was pretty good. the front grille area was probably one of the worst areas with little rust spots, like along the edges and stuff but all of the parts were definatly saveable. paint looked fine as it but a respray i think would be mostly sanding down and get all the tiny nicks and dings out, not any really surgery needed that i could see.
the truck did have the 460 in it so the wheel well areas you can see from the engine bay did have some chunks taken out of them to make it fit. the mustang II setup didn't have any motor mounts on it at all yet.
passenger side window was missing and driver side window had two big cracks in it.
bed had some of the diamond plating on it and then painted over the color of the truck. it looks like it had been done awhile ago because the paint matched the other panels pretty well.
i offered the guy 3000 hoping to maybe get out of there in the 3500-4000 range. he said now way and was already offered 6500 multiple times and turn it down. i let him know he should probably call that guy up and take the money(knowing dam well that offer never happened). he then told me 6500 is no longer an option and 7000 is the least he would take. after taking a bit longer he decided he could do the 6500 which i made pretty clear was way to much.
guy didn't look like he had much money and he was in deep with this car. if it was all back together and had a crappy little 302 in it even with a bad tranny but as long is it rolled around i probably would have paid pretty darn close to the 6500.
food for thought, imagine having a project that you let sit for months at a time but you have to pay rent on a locker even when you don't work on it. made me very thank full i have a garage and can take a break from working on cars without having to pay any fees to someone.

so i sent a email to the one close by to my house. check post 51 for the add and post 55 for what i thought of it.
i was polite in my email and just said. " i noticed you relisted that truck. it was nice and i would love to own it. have you thought at all about lowering your price. i am sure you probably want to be done with this truck and don't want to pay another 4 months of storage over the winter."
his reply was. "I am not going any lower than 6500. I don't mean to be rude but i don't care if it sits there or if i crush it. 6500 is the bottom line and i am not hurting for money so paying for storage is no big deal."
my phone rang today and i am sure you guys can guess who it was. he ended up coming down another 1000 on the truck and is at 5500 now. still to much. i did end up moving my price up a bit to 4000 because the truck is just so damn convenient and i won't need to drive all over new england and deal with tow problems. I am getting close but we are still 1500 apart. 4000 is pretty darn close to my max for this deal.
only other thing i might do to sweeten the deal is offer him my 05 ford focus. I know he doesn't have a car and I am buying a new one anyways. trade in value on it is probably 200 bucks or something stupid low, but to the guy with the truck it could be worth 1000. high mileage focus that runs and drives fine for someone who doesn't have a car could have some value.

Throwing in the Focus is a good idea.
Of course you could also figure out where he will take it to be crushed and offer them $1500....I'm not sure if they are allowed to resell something they bought for scrap.
