1997 f150 4.6 Romeo timing trouble
I have been browsing some forums and realize there are a few of these posts already so I hate to add one more but I am having a bit of trouble with my engine.
I had to replace he head gaskets on it and had no trouble whatsoever during the entire tear down but now that I have started putting it back together I've hit a dead end.
I decided to do the job without the cam positing tools and I have been using the Haynes manual as a guideline but I don't seem to be able to set the timing up like it says in the manual. It just seems impossible.
I can set piston 1 tdc and can put the crank sprockets on with their timing marks both at 6oclock like the book says but with them like that there is no way that the correct links on the chains will reach the timing marks on the can sprockets when the cam keyways are at 90 degrees. Every time I seem to only be able to turn the crank manually from 11 o'clock to about 5 o'clock and then it stops. It can turn the opposite direction as well but it still stops at the 5 o'clock area. Is there any other method of setting the timing correctly?
