84-86 Cougar 5.0 in an 86 F150

Hello, hope some one can help me. I have an 86 150 that has a cougar 5.0 from 84-86 in it that was converted to efi. The truck is a 4 speed manual (tranny came from the same cougar, I believe.) Problem is Im not sure which wiring harness goes on there. I bought the truck and am rebuilding it. Basically its Frankenstein's hot rod. Anyone here of this combined engine type?

We have had questions like this before, but it was people contemplating a swap like this. I always encourage them to strip the new engine down to the heads or whatever it takes, and bolt all the old truck efi stuff back on top of the car engine. Then everything plugs in, the computer is happy, and it's all still a 85 or 86 efi truck like original. Much easier to accomplish.

If you tried to use the car efi and all of it's components, it will be a nightmare to try and figure it out and you would have to get the car computer and try to retro fit it in place. And then you would end up with a frankenstein.

What did this truck have originally? Above I assumed it was a 5.0, they came with efi in 85 and 86. If it was some other engine like a 300 six, you will still have a wiring nightmare trying to get the cougar efi wires in place. If you really wanted to do this, I would suggest getting the Ford motorsports efi harness that is made for putting efi engines in hotrods. It's not cheap, but it's made to get a efi engine running were it doesn't belong. Your only other choice would be to get all the stuff from the cougar, get the detailed wiring diagrams for it also, learn up on the efi system, and try to splice it into the truck. I am thinking if you were up to that task you would not be on here asking what to do.

Thank you for your answer. It helps in figuring out what the gentleman who built her did as far as which harness he used. After having to fab a coil bracket since none from cougars or f150s' within tens years either way from 86, I realized
NOTHING is normal on this truck. I believe the upper intake is from a f250 5.0 same as the inline fuel pump that was not OE on that year 150. Who knows. Some day I may figure her out..

If you really want to get it running, I would investigate the hot rod route or convert it to carb. For me the tipping point for carb or efi would be the fuel system. If you have the tanks and pumps from the factory that are all setup for efi, I would lean toward that, though I still would investigate a hot rod aftermarket harness, other people probably make them too.

If it has a carbed fuel system on it because it was some other engine before, I think I would seriously entertain putting a carb on the efi engine. It's not too difficult.
