6.2 oil consumption

Hi all, is it common for the new 6.2's to use oil during break in. Just noticed mine at 1400 miles is more than a quart low. much as I hate to admit it I didn't check it when new and considering the sloppy prep job it may have never been full.

Shouldn't use any oil. Today's engines are built differently than in the past and There isn't really a brake in period unless you are towing. other than that motor should be ready to go. Go to the dealer and have them check the fluids.

I had to add a quart at about 2000 miles. Changed the oil at 2500 to Penzoil Plat and still had to add another quart at about 4000. I'm approaching 6000 now and it doesn't seem to be using losing it anymore. I'm going to do my second oil change soon and I'm hoping it just stays on the mark now.

My dipstick level moved about a 16th of an inch from first time I opened the hood to the first oil change at 5000 miles

Wow. I've had clunkers when I was younger that used that much oil.

I bet it isn't in fords eyes, but for me it would be too much.

My 6.2 doesn't use any oil, but I change the oil every 3k so maybe that might make a difference.

thanks for the replies, I'm still kicking myself for not checking it when new. I did stop at dealer today to start a paper trail just in case. they gave me a quart of oil to top it off. will head for Ontario with boat next weekend for 2 weeks, that should show if it's using!

I just check mine at 4,500 miles. It is maybe a hair lower then when I checked it with 6 miles on it. I've put about 600 miles towing the boat.

I did the first oil change at 500 miles, then 3,000 miles after that, Never left the top of the cross-marked area, 30,500 miles later and still never moves!
