90's 460 swapped out for 95 460

So I know the 460 is bad on gas and I should just get diesel but that's out of the question. I got 95 460 that I want to drop in my 90. The 90 is burning oil has lots of miles rings are bad as sre the valves and I just don't want to pay for a rebuild so I was wonder if the computer would still work in the newer one. I don't have a doner truck to pull parts from. The 95 motor
is complete.

Should work just fine just don't try to use any wiring that comes with the donor motor. The one sticking point I can think of is the location of the TFI ignition module on these two motors and how that affects the wiring harness, on the '90 it's on the distributor but on the '95 it would have been on the fender. To keep the wiring intact you will want to use the '90 distributor.

Yes same issue with regards to wiring and the distributor, may be other issues too depending upon the exact engine being swapped.

MAF is a better system producing better performance and throttle response and it better adapts to other preformance upgrades, but it won't improve fuel milage. Do you have all the parts to add MAF to your truck? I'd suggest you get the motor in an running normally and then tackle the MAF upgrade since it's not a simple plug and play harness swap when using donor parts.

The later harness won't work at all. You need to use the stock harness. The '95 engine harness connects with two square plugs and the '90 uses the four round plugs (look behind the airbox on the driver's inner fender)
The '90 harness will plug into the '95 engine no problem (other than the TFI)

I thought the fuel rail switch to the rear connect in '90. Must have been changed later in the year.

the motor might have been from an 89' which would make sense then...the guy I bought the motor from stripped the truck for the axles and the motor was rebuilt at some point...I had to take a gamble at $350.00 it looked like it had maybe 10 to 15 K on it...no rust and a lot of paint was still on the block and head def. not a 20 year old motor
