Dak, at the cost of these trucks, the engines out to be good for 250,000 miles. I had 275,000 on my 2000 7.3 with no problems except glowplug replacement. These engines ought to be good for at least 250,000 miles. If they are not, I may will not buy another diesel from Ford.

Anybody else remember when the 6.7 came out Ford was crowing that it was tested to 250,000 miles?

I found the article, another tidbit is they had a HPFP failure in one of these engines. Still love my 2011, it's going on 2000 mile roadie next week.

Don't get me wrong; I love mine. It is the best truck I have owned.

These engines are awesome but like anything nowadays, the way they need to be run exceeds what is possible in a mechanical engine. They need advanced materials and digital controllers to achieve a running engine. The 7.3 and the cummins 12V were the pinnacle of a mechanical beast. Everything changed when the EPA started clamping down.

So naturally, when a part fails it's catastrophic and expensive. It'll take another few years for things to feel "normal".

Not sure how many of you are on Facebook but I've created a page for this issue. I'm curious to see how many people have experienced this issue and see if Ford will do anything to assist those who've experienced the issue if we have a large number of people in the group and spread awareness via social media. The Facebook group is 2011 Ford Diesel Falures and the link is, https://www.facebook.com/groups/262765610723680/

I sent a join request although I have not experienced the failure you cite.
It was interesting to see the pictures you posted.
As I recall, the issue with some of the early valves was with the exhaust valve heat treatment and the failure of the valve typically resulted in the head and stem of the valve coming apart..
