6.2 Gas Mileage 2012 SC 4WD
I've seen some posts about "bad" transmissions causing poor mileage.
I drive in town about 8 miles one way and average 8.5 on the lie o meter.
It might get up to 9.0 if I really baby it. I bought the truck used this year
with only 10,000 miles and am really disappointed that it won't get at least
10+ in town. Had the truck back to the dealer and ask to have trans checked and mileage looked at. Per them all is fine. I've checked the brake calipers with temp gun and none are dragging. Any suggestions? 5
star says to expect 1% improvement so that would get me .9 MPG and take
25,000 miles just to repay for the tune.

Tires larger than stock? Lifted? Any load? Avg speed on the 8 to 9 mpg?
Mine is all stock in terms of tires and lift, 4x4, crew cab, loaded with fuel I ring in around 7600 pounds, I think.
I'm averaging in the 11s on the lie meter if it only around town driving. I can get 13s mixing driving highway. Around town is mostly 35-45. Commute is less than 5 miles.
I have gotten into the mid 19's on all highway staying 55-60.

best way to increase mileage... drive like there is an egg under your right foot...
like
taking 5 seconds to reach 10 miles per hour.. then slowly increase your speed..
coast to a slow speed coming to a stop light... NO hard Braking... coast down.
take skill and practice to get better gas mileage... learn grasshopper.

Chuck Put it best. Drive like an eggs on the pedal and reset your driving style. I get 14 Hwy with a rack on the back. I set the cruise at 70 and that's a fast as I go. These trucks are as aerodynamic as brick. I agree that mashing the pedal is fun. Not fun for the wallet.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I usually get great milage, it sits in the driveway at least 5 days a week and I drive abeater car. But really for what the truck is it gets good milage. Longer trips I get 15 to 17 that's with not much load, 6inch lift and 37s. I really had to hammer on it the other day getting back from work, hurry home to get wife for baby delivery hurry. The lie o meter was reset that morning and says 5.6 over a 50 mile trip. So yes light on the gas helps. I can't complain because it weighs twice of the explorer it replaced and gets about the same milage.
