ive got an 88 f150 ran fine before I took the battery out of it to get another truck running it sat for about a month then got the battery put in it and now it starts but idles real rough and dies if you hit the gas I think it needs a tune up but im told this is a pretty common problem with these trucks has the 351 Windsor and the multi port injection would really appreciate someone elses opinion

How old are the plugs,wires,cap and rotor?

Same for fuel and air filter.

 

to be honest with it being the 5.8 I doubt they've ever been changed im definitely doing the tune up but I was told that the 88s being the first year for the fuel injection had trouble with fuel delivery

 

Check fuel pressure and pull codes.

 

that's what had me stumped there are no lights on at all but the fuel pressure is a good idea never thought to do that

 

There can be stored codes or other issues that would trigger a code in the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) test without having a Check Engine Light on.
