1974 C 700 grain truck

This is my latest find after looking for about a year this one fell into my lap .....and was nearby . 361 2v 5 speed with 2 speed rear . stored in a barn all its life some very minor surface rust . It will be used as is for now then converted to tilt bed car hauler .....for the other hobbies.

45k miles

not bad for a 40 year old truck

Welcome to FTE

Do not believe the mileage, as the odometer reads to 99999.9 then returns to ZERO!

The paint is acrylic enamel, can be rubbed out to look almost new again.

Wash the truck by hand (no drought in MD), using either Ajax or Comet, which will remove the surface rust and 'dead' paint.

Buy two cans of DuPont White Polishing Compound, use either a buffer or your mitts to apply/remove it.

If doing it by hand, apply with a damp sponge, rinse the sponge out frequently. This will make it a lot easier to remove.

well due to the needle in the speedo picture you cannot see the zero in front of the 045444. and yes it does only have 45 k miles . I know the 2nd owner and he knew the original owner . I have been in the restoration hobby for 30+ years I can spot a high mileage veh a mile away .

I've been in this hobby since 1956 and have owned 335 vehicles, some of which you may have never seen or heard of.

2 things I learned very early: (1) Don't believe the miles shown on the odometer. (2) Never believe a single word that sellers claim.

The odometers roll over to zero and crooked used/new car dealers and owners alike rolled the miles back.

I have learned same thing from the parts counterman

again for this to "roll over" it would have 1 million miles on it maybe you should check the speedometer in the parts catalog to verify it.

2013 Escape is my daily driver, though I don't drive all that much anymore. I leased it 10/15/2012, it has 4,169 miles on it.

Many of these medium duty trucks look pretty ragged, yet have accumulated very little mileage. Medium are by and larvae what the industry refers to as vocational trucks. They are acquires and adapted for a specific, rather narrow use which requires specific design characteristics, but not involve much highway travel.

My own 1974 F600 has something like 36000 miles. I've put fewew than 500 miles on it since I bought it about 14 years ago.

The truck was owned by a local township water department and was sold when it became too rusty and obsolete for continued service. The mileage indicated is verified by the old door jamb oil change service stickers.

Grain trucks in general accumulate low mileage because many are used solely during planting and harvest seasons, a few weeks per year, and may travel only as far as the nearest elevator.
