'61 Steering Column question

In the process of installing the CPP '57-'60 power steering kit in my '61 F-100. I'm taking plenty of pics, and will do a write up when I'm done.
For whoever it was I was talking to about this swap(hey, I'm old and my memory is shot), the mods made to use the box aren't going to be that big a deal.
However, since I want to use the stock steering column, I'm having a bit of fun. Originally, this truck was a 3 speed. My existing 3 speed shift collar is basically trash(along with everything related to the 3 speed). It's worn out inside and broken off where the shift lever used to hook to it. I know I can replace this, but I think instead I'd rather have the collar from a 4 speed truck, without the provision for a shift lever.
Anyone know if I can just slip the blank collar in place of the shifter one and then attach the t/s switch housing to the top of the column as per stock and gut the shift tube and what remains of the levers at the bottom of the column?
Alternately, anyone who swapped out their 4 speed column want to sell or trade the column housing, collar and t/s switch housing?

Maybe. There seem to be some differences between earlier and later columns.

Something better to do is to use the 4 speed column with the '73-'77 collar and turn signal switch with the incorporated flasher switch.

Have a look here for info: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11482392

That would be awesome. My switch housing and switch have been screwed up since I've had this truck(about 11-12 years). There's one of those add on t/s boxes clamped to the column now.
Called my local wrecking yard. He wants to sell me the whole '73-'77 column. That might work, depending on length. I have to grind the end of the shaft for a U-joint anyway, and I'd planned on shortening it enough to lower the steering wheel a couple of inches closer to the dash, so cutting the flange off the later column shouldn't be a big deal. Or, I just get the whole thing and take what I need. I can see him not wanting to part out a column.

C3DZ-3790-A (replaced FEK-3790-A) .. Steering Column Extension-takes the place of the 3 speed shift collar on misc. trucks with 4 speed / Obsolete

Also used on misc. Passenger Cars with 4 speed and when the A/T & M/T shift levers are located on the floor.

Misc. applications: 1961/77 F100/250 & 1967/77 F350 with 4 speed / 1962/66 Falcon/Fairlane 4 speed / 1961/66 Galaxie 4 speed / 1965/66 Mustang A/T and 3 & 4 M/T

All 1965 thru today Mustang's have floor mounted A/T & M/T shift levers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1973/77 F100/350: 3 different T/S switches:

1) D3TZ-13341-A .. T/S Switch-Use with M/T = 1973/77 F100/350 & Bronco - 1975/77 Econoline.

2) D3TZ-13341-B .. T/S Switch-Use with A/T = 1973/77 F100/350 & Bronco - 1975/77 Econoline.

3) D5TZ-13341-B .. T/S Switch-Use with factory installed Speed Control = 1975/77 F100/350 & Econoline.

Hmm, thanks Bill. Food for thought, as I might have an old Mustang column floating around the shop somewhere.
Still, I've got to go to the doctor's this morning to get a blood test, and that requires driving right by the wrecking yard. I'll stop and see what he's got...having hazards and a turn signal switch that actually cancels would be an added plus to the conversions I'm already doing.

OK, the '73-'77 column was from a 2wd 4 speed truck. It's about 4-5" shorter than the '61 column jacket, but I anticipated cutting at least that much off the '61. The mounting bracket at the drop is slightly different, but longer bolts and a couple of spacers will take care of that. Going to use the complete column. Just have to get a different mounting kit for my steering wheel.

I think you need to transfer the 61 TS switch into the new column. The steering shaft sticks out to far on the top of the new column. You can cut the non-threaded part off or you can drill a hole in the plate on the underside of the horn button for the longer shaft to go through, either will work.

Generator trucks have a completely different TS switch than the alternator trucks.

1961/62 F100/250 2WD T/S switch is composed of 2 individual parts (see parts catalog pic below).

(1) C0DZ-13341-A .. T/S Switch-less mounting plate / Obsolete

(2) C0DF-13304-A .. T/S Switch Mounting Plate / Obsolete

Same as 1960/61 Falcon/Comet. A few of both are available NOS

But, neither will work on a 1963 thru 1977 steering column!

Not a generator truck any longer(302, C6, Duraspark, '82 alternator/regulator setup).
Original switch/wiring long gone/chopped all to heck(been using one of those clamp on the column boxes like the 50's guys).
I've got a Grant wood rimmed Mustang steering wheel I've been running, so all I have to do is buy the Grant adaptor kit for the newer column, figure out the wiring to the new switch and I can cut one more part of the rats nest under the dash out.
This may just be the incentive I need to rewire the whole truck, which it badly needs.

The most expensive words in mechanics: "While I'm in there".

Bill, I sent you an email with the part number I got off the tag of the switch I took out of the new column. D3TA-13B302-AB

D3TZ-13341-A .. T/S Switch-Use with M/T without Speed Control (1975/77 F100/350 & Econoline) / Marked on paper tag with ID engineering number: D3TA-13B302-AB / Available from Ford.

Applications: 1973/77 F100/350 / 1974/77 Bronco / 1975/77 Econoline.

btw: Crossett Ford-Lincoln in Crossett AR closed recently. I wonder what happened to the many obsolete parts they had, plus all the parts catalogs/shop manuals?

I'd like to know too, since Crossett, Arkansas isn't far from where I'm located.

Whiz over there and take a look-see. I'd like to do the same thing...except I'm located over 1500 miles west.
They had a NOS D5UZ-8200-A Chrome Grille for 1975/78 Econolines that have round headlamps. No one else had any 1975/78 Econoline grilles.

Member in Australia bought one of these in CA, it's presently located at a shipper in LA Harbor, to be shipped at the end of the month.

But when the fellow tried contacting Crossett, found out on the internet that they had shut down.

I called, phone rang about 40 times, no answer. I then called city hall, Crossett Ford-Lincoln went bye bye and the lady said she thought it had occurred in April.

Here in LA LA Land, there's a literature dealer that's a member of an auction house that FoMoCo uses when dealers fold, so he knows when this occurs, when the auctions are held.

When dealers fold, FoMoCo has a program called a termination. Dealers can return all the parts (except if obsolete) and FoMoCo buys back all the new vehicles.

But what auction house FoMoCo uses in AR, what happened to the obsolete parts, parts catalogs/shop manuals, I haven't a clue.

I did use google earth to look at the dealer, but pics were several years old. They have a raspy dentside tow truck that someone might want.

I had just done a websearch, after I saw where you mentioned they closed. There were several web references to the dealership and their website is still up and running. If they shut down back in April (nearly July now), they're a little slow pulling the website plug.

I only saw one minor search reference mentioning the dealership had closed.

--I would like to get my hands on a COMPLETE set of Ford Rotunda 9-inch 3rd member/differential service department setup tools. Ebay sometimes has a few bits and pieces, once in a great while but, not the whole shebang.

It's a 75 mile (1.5 hour) trip from here.

https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF...crossett%2C+ar

If they've been shut down for nearly 3 months, I suspect any prospect of tools, manuals or parts are probably long gone.

Whiz to all the dealers in the surrounding area, you might get lucky.

Crossett's parts are listed on the D2D (Dealer to Dealer - FoMoCo dealer parts locating system).

Their webpage on this site was last updated February 2015, but it's still active, as FoMoCo hasn't removed it yet.

75 miles isn't that far, especially when there's "cream" to be had. 1966-1986, I bought obsolete parts from over 300 west coast FoMoCo dealers, farthest away was in Anacortes WA

I also have Packard dealer lists from 1927 & 1956, went to these locations, bought all the parts from 5 of these former dealers, one of which was originally a Packard, then a Studebaker/Packard, then an Edsel and then a L/M dealer. Today, it's just a Lincoln dealer.

I sold these parts at car swap meets, and in ads in Hemmings Motor News. Made a bundle!

Thanks for the part # Bill. Now I can get a new t/s switch for this junkyard column and continue on with my project.
I had to order another steering joint from CPP, hope they don't take a month to get it to me like they did the rest of the stuff.

Hey, Ultra, saw you were in AR in another post. Are you a member of the Arkansas Chapter of FTE? We could use another slick owner in there, I'm highly outnumbered by those oil burner fanatics.
