motor options for a 95 F 150

All,

I have a 95 150 with a 302 that had a sticking valve and then appears to have jumped time. She can no longer run but I have kept her with me as we moved from NJ to Columbus OH because I have always wanted to build a motor from the bottom up and I figured I would finally get that opportunity now.

My question is: what are my options? At the end of the day, I really only need her for light hauling of motorcycles but I also want something that will be unique as I go to local truck nights. I do not need 500 horsepower but getting on the gas with 300-400 hp would be fine with me.

Thoughts?

thank you in advance for your time,

Jon

For your case, you need to think of how much power you want because that will dictate what parts you need. I don't think you can get over 300 HP with stock 19# injectors so you will need to upgrade your injectors, at the least. When you do this that means you also need to tune the computer. You probably have an SD computer, those can be tuned or you can do a MASS Air conversion. And if you are going to do a conversion, you then need to address the transmission...if it is manual you should be OK, but if it is auto you will need to make some other decisions about how to control that.

thank you for the response. sounds like i have planning to do.

what other motors fit in the truck that would make a good candidate for a rebuild project?

Any 5.8L engine will work but different brackets may be needed in order to mount your AC, Alt. & AP, etc. The holes are in different places due to the higher deck height of the 5.8L. If you get the engine from a donor truck you can take the brackets at the same time. Your current trans should work as well. The 19lb injectors will allow you to make 300HP but not much more.
And anyway it's torque that moves you along and gives you that feeling of being pushed back into the seat and the 5.8L has more stock and will have even more if modified.

Do a search on these forums as the subject has been covered many times before. No reason to rehash it here.

Thank you for helping narrow my scope.

The same accessory brackets work on both windsor motors.. there are a pair of holes where they mount to the water pump that accounts for the difference in width. They changed over the years but the existing brackets will work on a 5.8 for the OP.

As for building a motor it's not rocket science but to get serious output from any of these Fords the whole topend needs to be upgraded, but thanks to the popularity of the 5.0 mustang there are hundreds if not thousands of parts to chose from.
