I'd like to see PTO gear and generator head available on all trucks. A lot of us who own pickups and four wheel drives live in areas where we need generators and it's just one more thing that's not going to work when you need it. My truck should be a generator. Factory equipped so you can start it up remotely. Since people who pull campers need power too it should be designed so a thermostat is able to start the engine when cycling on the ac or furnace.
I also want the channel scan button on the steering wheel to go through all my favorite channels (am,fm,sirius). Needs to work like TV where I only need one button to flip thru the channels. Radio should also be able to pick up CB, weather band and automatically tune to certain channels I select as important if there's any chatter.

If this question applies to what I have, then all I would have wanted different in my ranger is a manual transfer case, which I realize was/is still an option for my truck and new ones. Everything else is exactly what I wanted in a truck (stick, 4x4, manual windows/locks, red, etc...).
As far as the original article, first I will say what I want to see is a MANUAL TRANSMISSION. Second, I have to call bull***** on the article saying people don't want a manual. If the dealerships had actually ordered trucks with a stick in decent quantities, with multiple body/color options, then more people would have bought them more then the 1-2% BS reason Ford used to get rid of them. Even back when I started going to dealerships looking at vehicles or for a job, I would look at the rangers and superduty's and very few would be a manual. Even today I still hear from people I talk to, and occasional customers at the dealership I work at, that they would get a manual transmission truck if it was available.

Here are the other things on my list
1 HVAC controls that are simple and LAST. NO dual temp, No Auto button, No Cheap Chinese blend doors to fall apart!.
A thermostat is OK but that is it.
The heater box in my 77 still works
2 No electric/electronic transfer case controls. a shifter on the floor and Manual locking hubs. works just fine if not forever.
Speaking of transfer cases
How about a 3 speed transfer case?
Say a 3.4 to 1 low
a 1 to 1 direct
and a .85 Overdrive ?
3 fullsize pickups that have the exterior dimensions of the 1996 models.
1/2 ton pickup do NOT need to weigh 5700 lbs no matter how many options they have.
