1976 f100 restore?

I have a 1976 ford f100 custom that has been sitting in the back yard for about 7 years. I want to start trying to get it running and going again. When it first quit, all it needed was a brainbox and battery. Im about to order a new brainbox, put a battery in it and put new plug wires in it. I just wanna know what I might be getting myself into and how much trouble it might be to get it running? Because I am no mechanic and i just thought this would be a fun little project for me.

So once I get those replaced any suggestions on what I might need to do and check next if it still doesnt start? Or at least turn over?
Thanks!

Sat for seven years? Start by seeing if the motor will even turn over by hand. If it will drian the gas tank. Check everything over for nests pull the air filter and look in the carb . you will most likely have to rebuild the carb and change fuel lines. Depending on how much fuel was left in it. But check to see if the motor will move before you buy anything I may be locked up

Before you try to turn it over by hand you might get a little lubricant in the cylinders. I've heard of people using anything from WD-40 to automatic transmission fluid. Probably doesn't matter much so long as it isn't dry.

You could pull the plugs and insert your lube through the holes (also make turning over the engine easier without the plugs installed).

Motor is not locked up! Thank goodness. I took the carb off and cleaned it. Surprisingly it was in fairly decent shape. I got everything ordered just waiting on them to get here now. Thanks fellas!

These trucks can be very reliable as long as the electrical hasn't been hacked up too bad by previous owners and isn't plagued with rust.

I have no doubt that it'll fire right up!

I agree, You may have Carb issues but a rebuild kit can be had for under twenty bucks

Only other thing I see causing fits may be the gas tank

Oh yes, I have recently been there. Dad gave me his 1976 F100 that had been sitting for 8-10 years. I rebuilt the carb, first thing. I found a lot of rust in the carb so I added a glass fuel filter, with replaceable element, so I could monitor the incoming fuel. I saw lots of rust from the fuel tank. I then proceeded to replace the fuel tank with a plastic one from Bronco Graveyard.
Truck is much happier now, especially since I have been buffing the paint too.

I took a look at the gas tank and lines. Pretty rusted up. Im sure ill have to replace them soon.
And my stepdad bought it from one of his friends who bought it new. So it's only had 2 owners. Stepdad said it was in very good shape when he parked it. Engine looks pretty clean. Checked all fluids, oil, brake fluid, radiator, etc.. Looks like they were changed last week. Blew my mind. Underneath shows some rust and wear but so does my 98 f150. Looking forward to firing her up. 351M/400. He said she sounds mean.

Well got everything put in and… nothing. No power not a thing. Figured something has got up in it chewed through wires and everything. It has to be an electrical issue.
I will post pictures soon!

Well, until you get one, have you tried jumping the solenoid?
