ordered new 2016 f350 6.2 gas, need input!

today i ordered a new 2016 single cab xl 4x4 cab and chassis with 6.2 gas with a 9ft rugby dump body. The reason for this is that i wanted a 4x4 dump truck, the current dump truck i have which i will not sell is a 1994 f350 with 460 and it still runs great. The salesman said it was weird that somebody ordred a gas for a truck like that but i did not see the need to spend 9k for a 6.7
i have all sorts of ford trucks i use, i have the 1994 with 460, 2 f250 trucks one with v-10 and the other with 6.0 powerstroke, then i pull my 33ft camper with a 2010 f350 king ranch with tow boss pkg and 6.4 powerstroke, which all the engines and trucks work well, the v10 gets worse milage of them all, and 6.0 gets best and 6.4 is behind 6.0 in milage.

I am new to a 6.2 gas engine and what i have found it was based on the 385 block like 460 with smaller pistons, my old 460 still does not burn oil and keeps on going, it is slow but pulls all day long, i guess i am curious how the 6.2 gas will do, the salesman told me those engines are not derated to 316 hp then i hear people saying they are 385 hp. to me i am not concerned because the 460 only has 245hp and does well, i am wonder what the members think about this engine compared to 460

The 6.2 with the 6 speed transmission is a great package together. I don't believe you'll be unhappy with your set up, but did you put 4:30 gears in it if not think about changing that or you might not like the loaded pulling fell and think it's gutless.

Pretty sure there's no truth to that. The 6.2L is an all-new design that was first used in 2010. I don't think it shares even a nut, bolt, or washer from the old 460. It's an OHC design with lineage to the previous generation modular engines.

There will be no comparison. You're going to have 150 HP more on tap, and a far superior 6-speed transmission keeping the engine right where it wants to be. It will lack a little of the low-end grunt of the old 460, but will have a much flatter torque curve that carries into the higher RPMs. I've pulled 16,000 lbs with a 6.2L truck and wasn't disappointed, and I don't think you will be either.

I completely agree with this. It has been quite a few years since I drove a 460, but the 6.2 paired with the 6 speed transmission and the 4.30 gears performs quite nicely. I certainly won't be looking for a way to replace my 6.2 with a 460 when the time comes, which should be a very long time from now.

The only thing that I can think of that you might be disappointed in is the throttle response because of the drive by wire, but if your V10 is a 3V (2005+) then you will already be familiar with the drive by wire throttle response that Ford programs into these trucks.

i am hearing alot of people pulling alot of weight with 6.2 gas, one day i was hauling material to jobsite, it was way out and i did not want to make 2 trips so in bed of my 1994 350 dump i put 4 ton of 1 inch rock, then i had my dump triler hooked behind it and it was loaded with 9500 pounds of river rock, it was slowing doing that but it handled it, i have done that alot before. i cut off weight in dump bed at 8000, i normally haul 6000-8000 in bed. the reason for second truck to replace dump trailer that i am using to pull behind my f250 v-10. the 1994 i will keep using and redoing when needed.
the 6.2 gas must pull better than v-10s from what i am hearing, my 33ft camper weighs over 12k and before i purchased my king ranch dually i used this truck pulling camper, it did ok but it was hard on truck,it felt like it was to its limit.

Here is a post from the 6.2 forum with videos showing three trucks from the forum here all pulling the same ~15k trailer up what seems to be a pretty substantial hill. The three trucks represent a 2V V10, a 3V V10, and a 6.2 with the 4.30 gears. I am not sure what differential gears the V10 trucks have, but the 6.2 clearly pulls pretty hard.

The "derated" version of the 6.2l is the same as the 385hp version, the quoted HP for the "derated" version is taken at a lower rpm (before peak) thus the number is lower. Hope you got 4.30 gears or steeper.

FYI most car/truck salesman have no clue about what they are selling. Lots of gas 250-550 trucks in my area, reliability.
