Swapping a 96 obd2 roller motor into a 94 obd1 application

Hi guys been trying to research this but it's not that easy so I'm asking for a little help and new knowledge. I built a 351w out of a 96 f350 new comp cam with matching lifters pushrods springs distributor gear rockers ect. I want to swap the 96 motor into the 94 bronco. The bronco is bone stock 5.8 with every factory option for the xlt. I'm the 2nd owner so it is not butchered and been factory maintained all 230,000 miles. I simply wanna drop the motor into the bronco but my question is will all the factory 94 computers and plugs bolt up to my 96 and read the inputs and outputs correctly? Is there anything I should watch out for? What else am I missing to pull the 94 non roller 5.8 for a 96 roller 5.8? I have all computers and harness out of the 96 also. Thank you for the help and time!!

The '96 motor you got was likely not from an OBD2 truck as anything over 8500lb GVWR remained OBD1 until the new superduty was introduced in 1998. That said it wouldn't matter if it was OBD2 because there is nothing OBD2 specific about the motor itself just a couple unique sensors bolted on. The basic motor you got was identical to the '94 you took out so everything will plug right in, but just to ensure DO NOT attempt to use any wiring from the '96 use only the original '94 engine harness, if you do find a crank sensor on the '96 just leave it unconnected and be sure to use the '94 EGR valve, sensor and tube if the one on the '96 differs.

BTW.. the original motor in your bronco should also be a roller.

Cool that's what I was hoping for I want to use everything in the truck just replace the old motor with the new one, glad it won't be a huge project, using shorty headers too but they don't have the inlet in the front for the egr or smog set up not sure which it actually is but here's the picture this f3te part doesn't have a hook up on my headers

Just cut the female collar off another EGR tube(the part right below the valve) and weld it to the front tube of the passengers side header.

If the 96 had a maf system and the 94 has a map system, you might have to swap the lower intake so you can use the air temp sensor for the 94. If your 94 is a maf system, then you're golden.

But even if the 96 was maf and say the 94 is map I have everything to run the 96 as a map motor correct? I wouldn't need to add maf to my map system just use the 94map system on the 96

When you have the two engines side by side you will be able to tell. The map manifold will have a giant hole in the #1 runner for the act sensor. A maf manifold will have the boss, but no hole. That's all.

If the manifolds are different, just use the 94 lower on the 96 engine. If they are the same, then no need. There may have been some crossover between maf/map during this time and it is just something to look for to reduce confusion.
