This one is popular among the transient population due to its alcohol content and it being "almost" free...

Le sigh. I've said for years that if I'm not wrong once a day I'm not trying hard enough. I tried hard this day, and have been wrong twice so far. On this occasion I said there is no bad beer. Then Yama4fitty posted this. It isn't even malt liquor by label, it's a lager. Rrr!

There are said to be places in some cities where they can't sell that "um" Stuff.
Really pissed off the tiny Mom and Pop stores.

Hope this makes you feel better :

"Malt liquor is a strong lager or ale in which sugar, corn or other adjuncts are added to the malted barley to boost the total amount of fermentable sugars in the wort, and thus boost the final alcohol concentration without creating a heavier or sweeter taste."

Oh and Steel Reserve is nicknamed "High Gravity Lager" or "Triple Export Malt Liquor."

So, it still really isn't beer!!

Here in CA a city can create a resolution regarding alcohol sales to further restrict it. One of the cities near me, stores cannot sell the little tiny bottles of liquor. Where I live, they used to not be able to sell bombers of beer or anything larger in quantity. Sooooo glad they changed that

I hear that is some good stuff and even better when the "cook" knows
what they are doing.

I would love to give some a try one day.

Lots of legal moonshine these days. The feds lowered the cost of the license, and a bunch of good ole boys went legal.

cooking it is not a big deal. the big problem is leaving it sit to age properly without drinking it.

So does it get better as it ages? Also is there a max time one should hold
if for so that stays good?

when i cook i use a lot of sugar and cinnamon in the mix. if you try to drink it rite away it has quite a "bite".
if you put it up in a cool dry place for 2-3 months it mellows out very nice. 6 months it is so mellow it tastes just like cold apple pie when drinking it. then after a minute or so in the stomach it turns into hot apple pie as the alcohol takes effect.
after 1 quart of 6 month old a little dude sneaks up behind you and whacks you in the back of the head with a 8 lb sledgehammer.

it does not go bad because i put it in the mason jars warm. then the jar vacuum seals itself once everything cools off in storage.
i missed a jar out of the first batch and it was down in the crawl space for 3 years.
it was smooooooth.
