ICM help

How do you separate the two connector plugs on the ICM on my 1976 F350/460? I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly before I damage them.

Thanks

Very care fully lol... I find it easiest to use a pick tool or small pocket flat blade screwdriver. Use one to gently pull out on the two side tabs one at a time while pulling the connectors apart. If they are too stuck for this take the screwdriver and pry the male rubber end out of the hard plastic female end. If you look on the side of the female connector there is a hole where you can see the bottom of the rubber piece. Pry against there to break it free

Thanks for the quick reply. That's kinda what I had been trying to do, but wasn't sure I could break it free by just prying on one of the clips at a time. There must be a tool that spreads both of these clips at the same time. I did not notice that you coud see the bottom of the rubber male plug through the hole in the female plug. I'll utilize that "feature" if it becomes necessary.

You should be able to just pull them apart, as instructed on the connector. The tabs that stick up into the clips are angled on both sides.

I followed Hivoltj's advice, and separated both plugs using small screwdrivers to separate the retaining clips. I lubed the connectors with some dielectric greese. Now that I know I can separate the plugs, I'll go buy the new ICM.

If the old one works, keep it in the truck as a spare!

Heard of them going belly up and dying right when you don't want them too...

I'll definitely be keeping the old one as an emergency spare. The new one is a BW unit but made in China, so no telling how long it will last/work.
