Timing belt or chain or none?

Hi,
I am new to this forum and to the world of mechanics. My partner and I have a '95 ford e-350 short bus school bus with a 7.3 ps diesel engine that we renovated into a tiny home last year. After driving it across the country we are feeling called to do some maintenance and have some questions that I am hoping to get some help with on this forum.

First question is whether this engine has a timing belt or chain or something else?

Also wondering if there is anything else we should have checked or replaced to keep our house running.

thank you! looking forward to engaging with the knowledge of this community.

blessings,
Jessi

It's a gear drive.
Keep a spare cps and wrench in the bus.
How many miles on it?

Hi Jessi, welcome to the ford trucks forums!
As 84-250 stated these engines are timed by gears, no chains or timing belts. I'd say the most important maintenance is keep the oil changed with any good diesel rated oil. Motorcraft 15-40 for example, which can be had from Wally's world for fairly cheap. If you read threw the first few threads at the top of the page, you will find a wealth of info in them. These guys can help you threw most any problem you encounter.

CPS = Camshaft Position Sensor. Tells the computer when to fire the injectors.

You've got a loooooot of reading up to do on these old engines. Have fun and learn stuff.
